cover design for The goat, the sofa and Mr. Swami

The book’s already in the stores, on the webs, in the press, on TV, in people’s hands and yet, I’ve been too lazy to post about it. Often, the case is I can’t talk about something until it’s out. And this one came out a month ago. Then?

Maybe, it’s because of facebook. I put up a picture of the cover and felt I’d get away. After that, it was this nagging feeling that self-promotion didn’t qualify as actual work, so it’s okay to talk about it later. And now, I’ve been putting it off because I don’t know what to say. Eureka! Cover designer suffers writer’s block.

Anyway, the one above went to press. And though I’ve never driven an amby all my life, I’m delighted to inform you that I managed to park one on the spine. With little back and forth.

I wish Chandrasekar had a blog or an excerpt online I can link to so you can get a sense of his humour. I was slapping my thigh and laughing like an idiot and almost forgot I had to do the cover and I’ve read the book twice. There are no jokes or funny puns in there, but plenty of jokers. And, guess what, the tone is flat serious. Throughout. At least, in a satire, you see the punches coming. This one, you won’t know what hit you. Mr. Swami, you’re the man!

Here’s what else I made in between all the slapping and laughing.

I loved the book, and really liked your cover! yes, the Ambi and the man chasing the goat, were very nice touches.

I also liked that alternate cover with the hands form the writing, very cool!

The second cover is great too. And so is your post.

The book of course is unputdownable with its poker-faced humour.
